The Government Relations Committee's reason to exist is to protect our Order's right to exist and to promote fair and appropriate legislation that will enhance our community and charity work. We must provide information to our political leaders for they can only support our efforts if they know of our activities.

Our Order has a system in place for the purpose of informing our legislators of our community and charitable work. The manual titles "Charity Records Booklet" (purple) should be used. A "Government Relations Chairman Copy" is available as is a copy for the Lodge secretary. The booklet should be used by the subordinate Lodge to record information related to its activities on an on-going basis.

The information needed to complete page 2 ("The Volunteer, youth Charitable and Community Services") of the mandatory "Annual Report" is obtained from the "Charity Records Booklet".

The Lodge chairman together with the exalted ruler and secretary should become involved in this process. The use and completion of these two documents will go a long way in meeting our goal of informing our legislatures about our community and charity work. In addition to the above, listed below are additional Lodge activities that will help in this endeavor.

  1. Recruit political leaders to become members.
  2. Work with legislatures who are already members.
  3. Assist in voter registration and encourage people to vote.
  4. Honor legislators by promoting "Nights for Legislatures".

The Lodge chairman should study the Government Relations Manual (gray) and maintain communications wit the District Chairman.

A monthly or quarterly report from the lodges is not required (A yearly report is required) as is the case with most of the other committees. Nevertheless, lodge chairmen should inform the district chairman of their progress.
