The Indoctrination Program should take place
in a friendly and comfortable environment, preferably with food or
refreshments being served.
The prospective new members who attend the Indoctrination Program have already decided to become a member of a Lodge, usually as a result of their having been a guest of a Member at one or more social affairs. The Indoctrination Program is the opportune time to inform them of other good reasons for becoming a Member of our Order. Their becoming a Member has already been accomplished, keeping them in the Order is equally as important. One method which may be effective in our effort to retain new members is to inform them of some of the major charities supported by Elks such as ENF (Scholarships, Hoop-Shoots, Drug Awareness, Scouting, Veteran programs, etc.). Major Project (the Purple Pig) and local programs. Advise them to look at the Guidebook "What it Means to be an Elk" which will be given to them as a new member, for a brief history of the order and some of its charities. Encourage new Members to become involved in Lodge activities and committees. Those are the Members who are likely to remain and who are critical to the operation of your Lodge; volunteerism is the backbone of every Lodge! |
