Welcome to the NCD Ritual page.

Congratulations to the Officers of Carmichael Lodge #2103 and Coach PDDGER Charles Leslie for winning the 2008 NCD Ritual Contest and to Rancho Cordova and Marysville Lodges for placing 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Also congratulations to Placerville Lodge for earning “The Most Improved Team” Award. Click on a link below for details on the 2008 Individual and Team Awards. We are also very proud that we had ten out of the eleven Lodges in our District participate in the contest. Since each Lodge in the District is assessed a $50 contest assessment fee, whether they participate or not, we hope that all eleven Lodges will participate in the 2009 contest. Even if a Lodge team has to read part of the Ritual, it is important for Lodges to be able to read the parts impressively and to know the basic movements, so that new members are impressed with the beauty and the lesson of the Ritual.

“Ritual” is the backbone of every Elks Lodge. It explains the very reasons why the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America exists. It is hoped that every Officer and member will embrace the teachings exemplified in the Ritual, in both their Lodge and personal lives.

The Purpose of the Ritual Contest is to:

  • Insure that each Officer knows the Ritual of Initiation so the candidate is impressed with the lesson it teaches.

  • Insure that the Ritual is performed in a standardized manner, Nationwide.

  • Increase Officer Camaraderie and teamwork.

The “Ritual Contest” is held annually, Nationwide, in every District. Each Elks Lodge in the District hosts the contest on a rotational basis. The 2009 NCD Ritual Contest will be held on May 1 and 2, and the Rancho Cordova Elks Lodge #2484 is the “Host Lodge”; however, Carmichael Elks Lodge #2103 has graciously agreed to let us use their Lodge Room (Ballroom B) for the contest. That will be more convenient and economical for the Committee and for most of the Lodges in the District. Food and beverages will be available at the Carmichael Lodge for the May 1st Friday night dinner, and for the May 2nd Saturday breakfast, and Saturday lunch. The May 2nd Saturday night Awards dinner will be at the Rancho Cordova Elks Lodge #2484. For those of you who would like Lodging near both the contest site and the Awards Dinner, we have obtained some special discounted “Elks rates” at the Rancho Cordova Vagabond Inn Executive for $78.28, which includes the tax. Just click on the links below for specific details on Lodging, Contest Schedules, Contest Room Floor Plan and Practice Times, Ground Rules, etc.

Each Lodge Ritual Team should attend the CHEA North State Ritual Clinic at Woodland Elks Lodge on January 10-11, 2009. It is at that clinic that any Grand Lodge changes to the Ritualistic Manual will be handed out and discussed. At the January 25, 2009 DD Clinic (at the Elk Grove Lodge}, we will provide an information packet to each Lodge with the latest contest schedule information, a layout of the contest room, Ground Rules, District and State Contest Application Forms, available Lodging information, and information on social activities. Preliminary Ritual Contest times for each Lodge will also be drawn at the DD Clinic.

If you have any questions on any Ritual Contest matters, please email me at: rusty95670@yahoo.com or call me at home at 916-638-9831, or at my cell phone at 916-812-1990. The other NCD Ritual Contest Committee members are: the 2010 Ritual Contest Chairman, Roseville PER Dan Fisher, the 2011 Ritual Contest Chairman, Sacramento PER Jack Lewis, and my Contest Assistant, Rancho Cordova PER Kathy Cobb.  I wish each and every one of you the very best in your performance.
